Technology goes home

Technology Goes Home is a program that helps parents and kids understand how to use a computer. Every Monday or Saturday students stay longer and the parents come to school for 3 hours. The program is 10 weeks every Monday or Saturday. During class time they learn a couple of things and take a little break. The classes that they take are Microsoft, Internet, e-mail and other stuff. Sometimes students have to do assignments, and Mr. Weatherford partners the parents with parents. This is so the parents can get to know each other.

The goal of the Technology Goes Home Program is to provide low-income families with computer equipment, training, and support in a manner that encourages:

· Creation of Internet communities within and between BPS teachers and their families

· Enhanced employment opportunities for adults

· Improved academic performance for children

· Community collaboration and cooperation

· All participants must attend and participate in computer training classes.

· All participants must agree to complete class projects.

· All participants must agree to work towards achieving a basic level of competency as outlined in the Basic Competencies document.

· All participants must agree to participate in the on-line community Intranet.
