As the summer rapidly approaches, TechBoston is still looking for more
companies willing to provide students with summer opportunities. A summer
job allows a student to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom
in a real-world environment while providing valuable assistance to their
employer. Don't miss out on bringing talented TechBoston students into
your company!
Step One
Employers interested in hiring a TechBoston student(s) should contact
Joe Chard, TechBoston Employer Organizer for the Boston Private Industry
Council (PIC).
Step Two
Employer works with Joe Chard to establish a job description that will
be used to recruit specific BPS students from TechBoston programs to fill
the opening.
Step Three
Joe Chard forwards the finalized job description to specific Boston
Private Industry Council Career Specialists assigned to BPS high schools
where TechBoston sponsors courses. Career Specialists review the job description,
identifies candidates and contacts the employer to confirm interview schedule.
If student is hired, the Career Specialist will confirm start date with
the employer.
Step Four
Throughout the course of the internship, it is the Career Specialist’s
responsibility to follow up with the student’s supervisor and use
the Work Based Learning Plan (WBLP) to monitor the student’s progress.
The WBLP is a communication tool that helps the supervisor, student, and
Career Specialist set clear goals and expectations.
Step Five
Joe Chard will continue to remain in contact as the account manager
in order to keep the employer informed of TechBoston initiatives, as well
as to work with the employer on any new job development strategies.
Note: If you find that you have project work to do (e.g., website design
or maintenance or IT support) but can not consider bringing on a student
intern, you may be interested in talking to the TechBoston Consulting
Group (TCG). TCG has teachers and professionals who work with students
to do your project work. You can learn more by clicking on this link:
