Boston Public Schools Adobe Youth Voices Project

Visit the BPS AYV Project Wiki for Adobe Youth Voices Project news, curriculum, tools and resources. Boston Public Schools Office of Instructional and Information Technology (OIIT) - TechBoston is partnering with Adobe Youth Voices on a grant designed to empower students to express themselves and constructively comment on the world around them by using digital tools to create media with a meaningful purpose. Since 2011 over 69 educators and over 3000 students from 27 Schools participated in the BPS AYV Project. This cohort of educators consists of a diverse group of teachers teaching subject areas Multimedia, Science, History, Mathematics and Foreign Languages. This experience not only enabled the educators to enhance their teaching strategies but also provided them with an opportunity to participate in a global network of AYV educators who embody AYV's Create with Purpose & Creative Confidence teaching methodology while participating in a global discussion around youth created media. We believe that this student-directed approach to learning is leading to increased student engagement and to a higher quality student media production at the schools involved. In the middle of the year students participated in an External Rough Cut Review during which they received constructive feedback from BPS Community, other graphic design artists and Adobe employees. The students, while using the feedback provided, worked towards refining their final products, which were displayed and celebrated at the district's BPS AYV Spring Showcase, held in May. BPS Visualizing Mathematics Project

The purpose of this project is to align our work with the existing collaboration between Michigan State CMP & IMP Project and Key Curriculum Press with a focus on researching and developing a collection of activities, including worksheets, sketches, and teacher notes specifically aligned to the Common Core Mathematics Standards and the Mathematics Department Curriculum for Middle as well as High School. We also look forward to identifying thematic and content elements central to the design of the Secondary Mathematics curriculum amenable to Dynamic Geometry visualization and exploration. These activities provide a seamless integration and support the pedagogic purpose through technology integration. One necessary rationale for offering a series of these courses/workshops is to support the superintendents goal of offering Algebra 1 at the 8th grade level which will provide an opportunity for students to enroll in higher level mathematics courses i.e. Pre-Calculus, Calculus and AP Calculus.

BPS Imagination ToolBox Starlogo TNG Project

StarLogo TNG is The Next Generation of StarLogo modeling and simulation software. While this version holds true to the premise of StarLogo as a tool to create and understand simulations of complex systems, it also brings with it several advances - 3D graphics and sound, a blocks-based programming interface, and keyboard input - that make it a great tool for programming educational video games.
